Founded as the branch of CASTS (Chinese Association of Science and Technology in Switzerland) in 2013, the Chinese Association of Materials Science and Energy Technology in Switzerland (CAMSTS) has undergone swift developments in recent years. Committed to building an improved communication and collaboration platform for young materials science pioneers globally, we’ve devoted much efforts into developing various scientific campaigns relating to materials science, so that the scientific community gets further elaborated. The 2016 Annual Meeting will continue to promote interdisciplinary communications on hot topics of materials science and energy, where you can expect any detailed discussions based on cutting edge science and technology, as well as keynote lectures given by well-known scientists.
- Prof. Dr. Manfred Heuberger, Materials and Surface Science for advanced synthetic fibers, Empa and ETH Zürich
Fibers represent a remarkably old and abundant material form. In fact, fibers are important in our individual life, starting from the first day, and, have profoundly influenced the development of mankind for many thousands of years. Today, the development of advanced fibers is gaining new significance as a motor for industrial innovation, particularly in composite materials and high-tech or medical applications. Prof. Dr. Manfred Heuberger is going to share his research outputs serving for a safer and more sustainable living environment.
- Dr. Ming Shi, The realization of Novel Topological Quantum Materials, PSI
The realization of real topological materials has attracted great attention in recent years. The study of materials distinguished by the topological properties is an increasingly important theme in modern condensed matter physics and materials science because of their fundamental importance and great potential for applications. Although the theoretical consideration of “topological” properties in condensed matter can be traced back to a few decades ago (see the background report of Nobel prizes in Physics 2016), a large number of topological quantum materials have only been discovered in the recent years. In the upcoming presentation, he will first briefly introduce the concept of “topology”, and further discuss the exotic physical properties of this class of materials, as well as the implication for different application, e.g. for anomalous transports and quantum computations.

Polymers, composites and bonding technologies are nowadays of great importance for versatile applications. Committing innovative and professional contributions to application-oriented research and development for material and plastics technology, Prof. Dr. Pierre Jousset will highlight his experience and knowledge-how in developing different novel polymeric composites and further address their potential applications.
- Dr.-Ing. Jun Qu, Applications of Adhesives in Automobile Industry, Sika
Adhesive bonding, as a relatively new connecting technology, has recently developed very quickly and been well applied in aviation-aerospace, medicine, electronics, construction, vehicle and automobile industry because of its incomparable advantages versus conventional connecting technologies like welding, riveting and so on. It is used to bond windshields and bodies of cars made of different kinds of advanced materials. This presentation will introduce not only some general applications, but also some state-of-art technologies of adhesives like fast curing and crash resistant in the current development of automobile industry.
