1st Swiss-Chinese Career Symposium (SCCS)

Untitled

Background

Currently there are approximately 4,000 Chinese in Switzerland who have higher education background.

  • About 1,000 have graduated from Swiss Universities with a master or doctor title. Many of them are members of “Chinese Association of Science and Technology, Switzerland (CASTS)”.
  • More than 1,000 Chinese students in the 12 academic universities like ETH and EPFL. Most of them will obtain a master or doctor degree when they graduate. Many of them are members of CASTS.
  • About 1,000 Chinese Students in Swiss universities of applied sciences, art schools and management schools. Some of them are members of CASTS.

Since many years, the Swiss- Chinese Association (SCA), together with CASTS and Chinese student unions, has been organizing company visits (esp. at large international Swiss enterprises) for Chinese students and scholars in Switzerland. However, there have been no follow-up events arranged so far with job and apprenticeship information for such highly qualified attendees. On the other hand, many large, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which aim at expanding their business in China, have limited experience and access to the Chinese job market.

Therefore, the idea was brought up by SCA and CASTS to organize a Swiss-Chinese Job Fair (or Swiss-Chinese Career Symposium) for those highly qualified experts with promising performance potential, because they have experience in both Chinese and Swiss cultures. The SCJF will create a direct exchange platform for the Human Resource departments (HR) of Swiss companies and those talents.

Objective

The SCCS shall achieve the following objectives

  • Swiss enterprises can present their demands for highly qualified Chinese experts with Swiss higher education background, in order to attract these talents to their Swiss headquarters or Chinese branches.
  • Members of CASTS, other Graduates with job interests in China and Swiss graduates with knowledge on Chinese and job interest in China can establish direct contact with HR of attractive Swiss employers both in Switzerland and in China.
  • To create better transparency, i.e., what kind of job opportunity and which specific requirements the Swiss companies or their Chinese branches can offer to / expect from such specialists.

Target audience

  • Members of CASTS and other Chinese graduates in Swiss universities
  • Swiss graduates with knowledge on Chinese and job interest in China
  • Swiss or Chinese graduates already working in Switzerland with further interests in a job career in China
  • HR departments of Swiss companies, which offer job opportunities for Chinese in Europe and in China. In the first step all industry branches should be addressed.

Form

Such an SCCS will be organized in the form of a symposium split into two parts

  1. in the morning: 4 speeches by China experienced managers on different topics relevant for Chinese or Swiss “job searchers” in China, who have a higher education from Swiss academic institutions (or work experience).
  2. in the afternoon: A Contact platform (table exhibition) between the “job searchers” and the Swiss companies present, which are interested to hire people of the target audience

The expected number of audience is

  • 100 university graduates
  • Ca. 10 companies, each 2-3 representatives with individual table

The graduate applicants will be asked to provide a short overview of their current study status or work experienced at the application. This information will be provided to the participating companies beforehand in order to define which applicants they would like to meet at the event.
